Gait analysis is the study of locomotion, for our purposes in humans to measure the movement of the body in space (kinematics) and the forces involved in producing these movements (Kinetics).
In the case of running, walking and occasionally cycling injuries, a gait evaluation can be the answer to the question of how the injury happened, and creates a plan for keeping it from coming back.
We pride ourselves in having extremely comprehensive gait evaluations. This requires not only a detailed study of the way you stand, walk, run or ride, but also an extensive knowledge of the current shoes available. It is extremely important to make sure you have a good pairing of your shoe choice with your gait mechanics to provide you with the best possible foundation for performing your sport.
We also assess you to determine the need for foot insoles. At Elite Care we try to keep things simple, if your biomechanics can be corrected with a generic insert - we start there. If it comes down to making custom insoles we have the best in the business. We are proud to have Active Imprints out of Boulder, Colorado making custom orthotics for our office. We found Active Imprints through Paula Newby Fraser and other top level professional athletes who swear by these orthotics!
For cyclists, a custom insole provides a greater contact surface for your foot with the pedal. Without an insert, the ball of the foot is the only contact point with the cleat underneath it. Most cycling shoes do not provide enough of an arch support for your foot to make proper contact which leads to a loss of power. One of our professional cyclist quotes an extra 7 watts of power with his orthotics in.
